Compulsory viewing for all F1 fans

Whether you’re an old or new fan, the name should be familiar with in the Formula One world is Ayrton Senna. When Top Gear did a short piece highlighting his career they mentioned a new documentary will be coming out detailing his life on and off the track. Having watched this documentary I can say that it is a must watch for anyone remotely interested in F1, or even motorsport in general. The chronicle of his life from his grass roots karting days all the way to his death at Imola was an insightful look at a true racing legend.

Rest in peace, Senna.

The calm before the storm

You know that in a matter of hours this place will be swarming with the sounds of chatter, engines, cheers and applause. But for those few hours or so in the morning before everything kicks off, even the most loudest of places can be a area of serenity.

I really do enjoy these moments of stillness before a race day.

MINIature

Here’s a few shots from a real quick shoot I set up with my MINI recently – the first of many to come I might add! Took delivery of this a few weeks ago and it’s a real joy to drive. Looking forward to using it for testing ideas I have for shoots, scouting locations, experimenting with rigs and of course getting around!

Festival of Speed

The Festival of Speed is coming this weekend and I’ll be there on Friday! The last (and first) time I went to Goodwood for the FOS was in 2008 – it was a really fun experience and a must for all motorsport enthusiasts. I think what intrigued me the most was how different it was to other racing events. Car displays and other supplementary attractions aside, the Goodwood run is just a straight run up the hill opposed to cars going round and round the circuit. Meaning if you miss that one time then that’s it! That’s if they repeat that display again (which they usually do) and if you’re lucky they’ll showboat a little bit for you too in the form of donuts and smoky burnouts.

Granted, I’ll be going on Friday so the big stars won’t be there (they usually turn up on Sundays) but the events on display will be pretty similar and won’t be as crowded as it will be on Saturday and Sunday so I’m looking forward to it!

Japfest

Japfest is coming this Saturday and I’m really looking forward to it. This will be my first time at Castle Combe Circuit so it’ll be interesting to see what the track will be like when it plays host to the Extreme Drift Battle due to take place on the day. And of course, they will be plenty to see at the event such as countless retail booths, show cars and car club displays.

Unfortunately, the only thing I can complain about is the weather. I was foolish to think it would be sunny on Saturday when I looked at the forecasts earlier in the week. It’d be nice if the rain could move on when Saturday comes, but who am I kidding, right?
